Active Ownership and Voting Disclosure

Active ownership or stewardship involves investors using their formal rights (e.g. the ability to vote shareholdings) and informal influence (e.g. their ability to engage) to encourage companies to improve its management systems, ESG performance or reporting. This approach has been the basis of the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (formerly NPRF) responsible investment strategy for a number of years.

In 2016 the global component of the ISIF portfolio was restructured and a new strategy called the Global Portfolio Transitioning Strategy (GPTS) was established. Following this transition ISIF tendered for a range of Responsible Investing services including proxy voting and shareholder engagement services for the new GPTS. This process was underway between Q3 2016 and Q1 2017 during which time ISIF voted on portfolio company resolutions via its Investment Managers. We are happy to provide any information on votes cast during this period upon request.

Following the tender process, in Q2 2017 Hermes Equity Ownership Services (Hermes EOS) were appointed by ISIF to provide voting and engagement services across the ISIF’s Global Portfolio.

Hermes EOS focuses on engagements which have the potential to enhance or protect the long term value of our portfolio holdings. The 2018 – 2020 Engagement plan is available HERE
